Haven Thorpe Park – An Accessible Holiday Park by the Sea

Our Business Development manager Gillian recently took a trip to Haven’s disabled-friendly Thorpe Park Holiday Centre near Cleethorpes. Here’s what she thought about the park and some of the local attractions…

Haven Thorpe Park attractions and facilities

If you’re looking for a great seaside getaway on the Lincolnshire coast, Haven Thorpe Park could be the perfect choice.

Previously I haven’t spent much time on the Lincolnshire coast nor been on many caravan holidays, so we decided to take a short break away. I stayed in a Prestige caravan, which was beautiful. Everything was spotlessly clean, modern and new. We even had a small sea view from the kitchen window.

The park is ideally positioned, close to a beach at the side of the park, with sea views and a long walkway to take them all in. The park was very clean and tidy, with lots of tree-lined avenues and grassy areas. So if you aren’t travelling by car, you can still enjoy a walk by the sea – it was wheelchair accessible.

Accessible Haven holiday park activities

On site there is everything you need for children and adults alike. My little boy, who is 9, particularly enjoyed the AquaJets, the Leap of Faith and the zip wire. I’d bought an activity bundle before I travelled, which I thought was excellent value for money at £50. This allowed me to pre-book all our activities in advance of our stay to avoid any disappointment. The entertainment caters well for all age groups. We enjoyed a Meatloaf tribute act in the showbar, which was exceptionally good.

Within 10 minutes’ drive of the park is Cleethorpes, a traditional seaside town complete with sandy beach, donkeys, cafes and candy floss, plus Papas - the award-winning fish and chip restaurant located on a pier. Papas serves gorgeous fish and chips plus “patties”, which I’d describe as a mashed potato with a sage flavouring. Pretty tasty!

Lincoln Cathedral

Lincoln Cathedral

If you’re looking for a day out during your stay, Lincoln is within an hour’s drive. It has ever-changing landscapes, exciting scenery and the iconic towers of Lincoln Cathedral. A wealth of history, charm and heritage.

Also within an hour is The Deep in Hull (the UK’s City of Culture for 2017). The Deep is one of the UK’s biggest aquariums and has excellent accessibility, including complimentary wheelchairs and scooter hire, along with fully accessible toilets/changing area with an adjustable bench, hoist and adjustable basin and mirror.

We are already looking at another Haven break for 2020, possibly Rockley Park in Dorset to break up our journey to Cornwall. A nice little two-centre holiday!
