History of DisabledHolidays.com

DisabledHolidays.com (originally called The Disabled Holiday Directory) was launched in 2001 by a bright lady called Sian (Welsh for Jane and pronounced Shahn). Sian has suffered since childhood with Peroneal Muscular Atrophy (CMT). Her own difficulties over the years looking through countless brochures at tempting cottages, guest houses, hotels and caravans, but not finding any information that would enable HER with HER disability to decide whether it would be suitable for HER holiday led to a sense of hopeless frustration.

Just over eight years ago, after many years’ experience working in the holiday industry, a personal ultimate frustration of lack of detail led Sian to wonder whether she could do something about it and help everyone - and it is estimated that there are now over 9 million plus of us suffering from some sort of impairment.

After much research Sian was able to launch this Disabled Holiday Directory website. Still working from home, but ably supported by her husband John, and Peter her PA, she has been helping people find the holidays they really want.

In June 2008 Sian decided to retire and sold the web site to its current owner who wants to continue the ethos of the website into the next decade.

In recognition of Sian’s commitment to this business in its first decade of existence we have included the following page to tell Sian’s story.
