All year round sun and accessibility

All year round sun and accessibility | See all accessible holidays in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is one of the most popular island holidays of the Canaries for the welcoming year round sun and accessibility.

There are three main resorts to choose from:

1. Puerto del Carmen is closest to Arrecife airport and enjoys over three miles of long sandy beach.

2. Playa Blanca is on the southern tip consisting of villas and sandy beaches and also the resort we stayed at in the north of the island.

3. Costa Tequise - known for it’s rocky coastline and lovely town square in Pueblo Marinero.

Things to do...
How do you occupy yourself on a volcanic landscape!? You won’t get bored because there’s something for everyone. Here are some of my highlights...

Timanfaya National Park

The Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) were created between 1730 Fiona taking photo and 1736 when more than 100 volcanos, covering more than 50 km², erupted!  After a steep drive to the top of the volcanic area we transferred to a coach so that we could have a tour of the amazing ‘Martian’ landscape.  We ate chicken cooking on the geothermal heat and saw fire demonstrations. You can try a camel ride here too!Barbecue
TOP TIP: You can’t drive around the Fire Mountains. You must be able to transfer to a bus, however you should still visit if you can’t transfer, as you can still see the spectacular scenery and fire demonstrations.

A natural cave which is part of a 6km long lava tunnel born after Montana La Corona erupted 4,000 years ago.  We enjoyed a peaceful walk around the natural crystal clear lake and saw Lanzarote’s native albino crabs and stunning concert venue. The Jameo Grande is an open space with tropical plants which is surrounded by a swimming pool reserved for the King of Spain!
Dolphin spotting & snorkelling Fiona with a large cocktail
At the end of our holiday we enjoyed a relaxed boat trip from Puerto del Carmen searching for dolphins. We loved walking the plank to snorkel in the clear sea and eating an incredible Spanish lunch made by the chefs onboard. I recommend Sea Fun Lanzarote who went to every effort to get my wheelchair on board.

Lanzarote is not short of beautiful and accessible board-walk beaches. There are also so many tourists who get about in an electric wheelchair which shows how accessible the island is. Don’t be put off by the volcanic terrain because you won’t be limited if you plan well before you go.
