Disabled Self Catering Pet Friendly Available Now Barn Conversions in Gunnislake
Situated close to the border between Devon and Cornwall, the former mining village of Gunnislake occupies a picturesque spot in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is flanked by extensive woodlands, which provide stunning views across the valley, as well as some delightful walks and picnic areas. There is also a dedicated disabled-access car park.
The area’s rich mining heritage is honoured at the nearby Morwhellham Quay, an award-winning, open-air museum that faithfully recreates the sights and sounds of a working Victorian village. Forming part of a World Heritage site, Morwhellham features a historic port, mine and railway. Visitors can try their hand at a wide range of activities, including bread baking, rope production and even chocolate making. The highlight is the 40-minute train ride, which travels along the banks of the Tamar to an authentic Victorian copper mine.
More fascinating local history is on display during the annual Gunnislake festival, which takes place from the end of July to the beginning of August. Enjoy traditional Morris, majorette and Flora dances, or shop at a variety of stalls selling local produce. There’s even a falconry display, as well as film screenings, and an art exhibition in the church hall.
Just outside of town you’ll also find the Tamar Valley Donkey park, where visitors of all ages can pet and feed donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs and rabbits.
