Disabled 4 Star Available Now Holidays in Crackington Haven with Wheel in Shower and Ground Floor Facilities
The village of Crackington Haven occupies one of the most beautiful and secluded spots on the north Cornwall coast. Situated at the foot of a quiet valley, it’s blessed with a lovely beach, sheltered on both sides by dramatic rocky cliffs. The beach is a mixture of sand, shingle and rock pools, and its protected waters make it popular with bathers.
Crackington Haven’s small size means it benefits from being largely uncommercialised, while still offering a smattering of handy cafes and shops, right on the seafront. Away from the beach, Crackington Haven’s biggest claim to fame is its geology. The cliffs to the north and south of the village are noted for their distinctive folding strata of dark sandstone and shale, a phenomenon so unique that it’s known as the Crackington Formation.
The cliffs are also home to several species of birds, including the linnet, whitethroat, meadow pipit, skylark and kestrel. In the summer months the area is populated by a wide range of butterflies, while out to sea, it’s possible to catch glimpses of Atlantic grey seals, bottle-nosed dolphins and basking sharks.
Crackington Haven also benefits from its proximity to other popular holiday destinations. The equally striking Boscastle is seven miles to the south, while tourist hotspot Bude is 10 miles north. There are several other impressive beaches in the vicinity as well, such as Strangles and Widemouth Bay.
