Disabled Holidays in Ireland

Church ruins on a field in Ireland

Sparkling like a jewel in the Atlantic, the Emerald Isle of Ireland entices with an abundance of idyllic holiday opportunities.

Visitors come here from far and wide, drawn by unspoilt landscapes, natural wonders, rich musical and literary traditions, cultural cities and famously friendly hospitality.

The scenery is spectacular from sea to sea, from the magnificent Cliffs of Moher to the otherworldly Giant’s Causeway. Ancient stone circles and burial chambers sprinkle the countryside, as do thousands of fine stately homes and evocative castles – such as the world-famous Blarney and Rock of Cashel.

The western coast is so impressive that its entire 1,500-mile length has been designated a tourist driving route. Appropriately named the Wild Atlantic Way, it stretches from the wind-whipped tip of Malin Head in the north to the safe haven of Kinsale Harbour in the south, and takes in myriad soaring cliffs, lonely islands, hidden beaches and sprawling golf courses along the way.

Inland you’ll find more scenic delights, including the lake-speckled wilds of Killarney National Park, the moon-like glacial rock formations of The Burren, and the idyllic Wicklow Mountains.

Dublin and Belfast both boast lively pubs and nightlife along with numerous accessible hotels. Dublin has been designated a UNESCO City of Literature on account of producing many of the country’s best writers (think Beckett, Swift, Joyce, Wilde, Yeats et al.) and houses stellar scholarly attractions like the Old Library, National Museum and National Gallery – all of them accessible.

Belfast is equally beguiling, delighting visitors with its vibrant restaurant scene, gorgeous Botanic Gardens and sleek Titanic Quarter (both accessible), which is home to a suitably immense museum dedicated to the world’s most famous ship.
