Disabled Holidays in Blackpool

Blackpool Tower and beach postcard

One of Britain’s best-loved and most quintessential seaside resorts, Blackpool is a fantastic choice for a fun-filled accessible break.

There’s so much to see and do here – thrilling amusement and water parks, spectacular musical and theatre shows, glittering illuminations, raucous big-name comedy performances, and an entertainment-packed promenade that’s been delighting visitors for generations.

The biggest draw is the expansive seafront, with its seven miles of golden, Blue Flag award-winning beaches and host of family-friendly attractions. Britain’s only beach with three piers – North, South and Central – it’s where visitors flock to enjoy a multitude of carousels, fairground rides, arcades, live music, ice cream parlours and local street artists.

Many of the best sights are found along the Golden Mile, a dazzling stretch of the Promenade between the North and Central piers. Here you’ll discover the Sea Life Centre, Blackpool’s own Madame Tussauds and the iconic Blackpool Tower.

The tower isn’t just famous landmark, however; it’s also the site of numerous outstanding attractions like the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool Tower Dungeons, Blackpool Tower Circus and the Blackpool Tower Eye – where visitors can experience a 4D cinema and take in spectacular views via the wheelchair-accessible lift.

Opposite the South Pier, the 42-acre Blackpool Pleasure Beach excites with white-knuckle rides, such as the UK’s tallest rollercoaster, the Big One, while the neighbouring Sandcastle Waterpark has 15 different slides and rides, including Master Blaster – the world’s largest indoor waterslide.

Visitors looking for a quieter time can explore the scenic gardens and water features at Stanley Park, see exotic animals at Blackpool Zoo or take a stroll down the newly renovated South Promenade with its series of contemporary art pieces. Of particular interest are a gigantic mirror ball and the Comedy Carpet, which contains jokes from over 1,000 comedians and comedy writers.

Accessible attractions

Many of Blackpool’s top attractions are accessible to disabled visitors.

Blackpool Tower

Blackpool Tower makes every effort to ensure that The Blackpool Tower Eye, Dungeon, Circus, Ballroom and other facilities are accessible to all guests. Wheelchair access is available from the Bank Hey Street entrance, and there is a lift to all floors within the Tower. Toilets with disabled access are available throughout the building, including a Changing Places toilet.

Sea Life Centre

There are concessionary fees for wheelchair users and carers receive a complimentary ticket.

Madame Tussauds

The majority of Madame Tussauds’ facilities and entertainment are designed to be fully accessible to guests with disabilities. Staff will ensure guests with disabilities are transported safely from floor to floor within the building by means of a designated lift. Courtesy wheelchairs are available on request.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach strives to make the park and its rides as accessible as possible. There is a wheelchair loan service, accessible toilets and level and ramped access throughout the park. Reduced price parking for Blue Badge holders.

Sandcastle Waterpark

A Gold winner of Visit England’s Access for All Award, Sandcastle Waterpark offers exceptional access facilities, including accessible changing rooms, specialised access and a lift. Assistance is available with the use of Accessible Ambassadors, and disabled visitors and carers are welcome at a concessionary rate.

Stanley Park

Stanley Park has a network of asphalt paths running throughout with varying easy and moderate slopes. There are designated disabled car parking spaces beside the café, which has a ramped entrance and accessible toilets. The park welcomes assisted dogs.

Blackpool Zoo

Blackpool Zoo has accessible disabled facilities, toilets and designated parking spaces. There is level access throughout, with ramps to the restaurant. Wheelchairs can be hired free of charge from the main reception, with a refundable £10 deposit.

Getting around
