Disabled Holidays in Seville

Skyline of Seville Cathedral and a Spanish flag

Home to historic accessible sights, fine wine, traditional tapas and fiery flamenco dancing, Seville is a great choice for those seeking an authentic Spanish holiday in the sun.

Spain’s fourth-largest city, Seville has a storied past as a centre of wealth and power in Andalucia, endowing it with a rich architectural and cultural landscape. Its Old Town is a delightful maze of colourful, winding medieval streets, lively bars and baroque churches, with three exceptional UNESCO World Heritage Sites packed into its two square miles: Seville Cathedral, the Real Alcázar palace and the General Archive of the Indies.

A thriving cultural scene ensures there’s always something to entice. Festivals are a regular occurrence, with ostentatious parades and traditional flamenco dance parties frequently lighting up the streets and squares. Meanwhile the opera halls are always busy putting on some of the hundred-plus works set in this romantic city, such as the sensational Carmen and Don Giovanni.

Seville’s southerly location ensures it’s also one of the warmest cities in Europe, enjoying hot summers and mild winters – making it perfect for a sunny getaway any time of year.

Accessible attractions

Despite their age, most of Seville’s top historical sights benefit from disabled access. Some of the best accessible attractions include:

Seville Cathedral

The largest Gothic cathedral in the world, Seville Cathedral’s sheer size alone makes it well worth a visit. Construction began in 1401 and continued for over a century, with the resulting building spanning the equivalent of several city blocks. Highlights include the looming bell tower Giralda and the monumental tomb of Christopher Columbus.

The cathedral features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, disabled toilets and Braille brochures.

Real Alcázar

This extravagant UNESCO-listed palace is considered one of the finest examples of mudéjar (Moorish and Christian) architecture in Spain. A former fort, the elaborate building dates back to the 10th century and boasts stunning gardens which have served as film sets for Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones.

The Alcázar is largely wheelchair accessible, with wheelchair ramps and an adapted toilet.

Plaza de España

Created for the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929, the Plaza de España is a breathtaking public space characterised by its spectacular semi-circle of colonnades, colourful tiles, fountains and mini canals. Opposite the plaza you’ll find the lush greenery of the Maria Luisa Park, the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

The square is flat and wheelchair accessible.

Lebrija Palace

This elaborate 16th-century mansion is one of the most richly decorated in Seville. The palace’s former owner, the Countess of Lebrija, purchased the mansion in 1901 and filled it with all manner of art and antiques. Now open to the public, it’s best known for its spectacular Roman mosaics lining the floors.

The palace is mostly wheelchair accessible. There are steps to the upper floor, but the lower part can be comfortably viewed in a wheelchair.

Isla Mágica theme park

Fun for all the family awaits at the Isla Mágica theme park, located just across the Guadalquivir river from Seville’s Old Town sights. Isla Mágica is bursting with a wealth of exciting rides spread over six themed areas and the aquatic Agua Mágica water park, with its artificial beach, wave pool, children’s swimming pools and lazy river.

The park is wheelchair accessible and has ten disabled toilets, widened entrances to attractions, and wheelchairs for hire. Staff have been trained to assist and inform visitors with disabilities.

Getting around

Seville benefits from being a very compact and relatively flat city, with all the major attractions within walking distance from one other. The city’s metro network is adapted for users with reduced mobility, and every station is equipped with lifts. Accessible taxis are also available to get you around town.

The city is just 10km from Seville Airport, which can be reached via direct flights from the UK in under three hours.
