Theme parks

Gold Coast is home to a wealth of family-friendly theme parks to suit all tastes, all of them accessible to the disabled.

Discover a whole new world of fun and adventure at Sea World, where you can see dolphins, seals, polar bears, penguins and more!

Let your imagination run wild at Dreamworld, Australia’s biggest theme park, home to the famous Big 9 Thrill Rides, as well as a range of wildlife experiences featuring crocodiles, kangaroos, tigers and dingos.

Next door to Dreamworld you can enjoy hours of splashtacular fun at WhiteWater World, or take a trip to Australia’s number one water park Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Coast for all manner of action-packed rides.

Wrapping things up is Warner Bros. Movie World. Known as Hollywood on the Gold Coast, it’s full of thrilling rides and roller coasters, plus breathtaking shows like the Stunt Driver Experience and 4D Lego Movie.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Set in beautiful bush and rainforest surrounds, this premier wildlife sanctuary enables visitors to enjoy a wealth of hands-on experiences. Cuddle a koala, pet a kangaroo, meet a pure white alpine dingo, or hand-feed a colourful blur of rainbow lorikeets in Australia’s biggest rainforest aviary.

The sanctuary has level access for wheelchairs, disabled toilets and a free wheelchair hire service.

Beaches

Beach matting and beach wheelchairs are provided at a range of Gold Coast beaches, including Burleigh Heads, Southport Broadwater and Tallebudgera. Still more feature designated beach access points and viewing platforms, including Main Beach, Mermaid Beach and Surfers Paradise.

Broadwater is also home to the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that hosted the swimming and diving events in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Aquatic Centre welcomes people with disabilities and is fully accessible with a hoist/chairlift available as required. The heated 25-metre swimming pool has ramped/wheelchair access, and there are accessible parking and bathroom facilities.

Getting there

Flights from the UK to Brisbane Airport take around 22 hours, including one stopover in the Middle East or Asia. From there it’s a one-hour shuttle bus ride to the Gold Coast.

Getting around

Gold Coast features a network of accessible buses and trams for getting around the city, as well as an accessible taxi service. The city council also published a range of mobility maps that include locations of accessible toilets, changing facilities, accessible car parking spaces, pathway gradients, location of kerb ramps and key buildings and services. Transport information for light rail stations, bus stops and bus routes is also featured.
