Location
Well known for the Black and White Trail, Hereford Cathedral and the Hereford Mappa Mundi, Herefordshire is also home to some excellent market towns such as Ledbury, Kington, Bromyard, Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye.
Shropshire and the Welsh Marches offer some well publicised towns and places such as Ludlow, with its many and varying festivals, racecourse and castle; Bridgnorth and the Severn Valley Railway; and Ironbridge with its world-famous bridge and museums. Church Stretton, Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley are also worth a visit.
Outdoor activities are in abundance throughout the counties and are hugely varied, from gentle riverside strolls to quad trekking and paintballing. Guests can also try their hand at high ropes, archery, Segways, clay pigeon shoots and canoeing/kayaking on the River Wye.
National Trust properties to visit locally include Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, Croft Castle, the Weir Gardens, Attingham Park, Dudmaston, Benthall Hall and Morville Hall. Powis Castle, Chirk Castle and Erddig are just over the border in Wales but still within easy driving distance. Other areas of interest include Bircher Common, a popular area for locals to walk; Oaker Wood Leisure; Stokesay Castle; and West Midland Safari Park. The Midland Gliding Club, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm all make for great days out. Shop ¾ mile. Pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
