Children under 6 are not allowed on open-top game drives. Other safari alternatives are available, using an accessible vehicle, if you do not have upper-body strength or if you are travelling with young children.
Day 1
Arrive at Johannesburg Airport and meet your Kruger Park safari host, who will introduce you to the beauty of the Eastern Transvaal on your four-hour transfer to Mpumalanga and the scenic Panorama Route.
Check into your hotel in this beautiful region.
Day 2
This morning we visit an Elephant Sanctuary, which gives you the opportunity to experience a very special close encounter with these gentle giants.
Balance of day is free to explore the beautiful Panorama Route with your guide (pay any entrance fees locally) or relax at your lodge.
Day 3
Today your guide will share with you the splendour of the Drakensberg Panorama Route, as we drive through the green Blyde River Canyon – the third-largest canyon in the world.
Enjoy wonderful views from Graskop Gorge Lift and God's Window.
We continue to Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where you have the unique opportunity of viewing wild lions, leopards, cheetahs, eagles and vultures at close quarters. Animals found injured, poisoned or orphaned are given a second chance and released back into the wild. Afterwards check into your lodge in this region famous for its wildlife.
Note: Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is closed on Sundays.
Day 4
This morning enjoy the beauty of the eastern Transvaal on your scenic two-hour drive to your game lodge in the world-famous Kruger National Park.
After checking into your lodge, enjoy your first thrilling safari drive in an open-top game-viewing vehicle accompanied by a lodge ranger. Game-viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast two-million hectare game sanctuary the size of Wales.
Hopefully you will see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and maybe even giraffe – as well as several of the Big Five today. Then dine under the stars in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide.
Days 5 to 7
Rise at dawn to take advantage of the best game-viewing conditions of the day, as you enjoy an open-top game-viewing drive with a lodge ranger in the world-famous Kruger National Park.
Explore some of this vast game sanctuary that is the size of Wales, offering magnificent game-viewing opportunities and the highest concentration of lions in the whole of Africa. Hope to see several of the Big Five today – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino – as well as many other species before returning to your lodge for breakfast.
The rest of the morning is free to relax at your lodge, before setting out again in the late afternoon for another game drive. With nearly 150 different species of mammals and over 100 species of reptiles in the Kruger National Park, you can hope to see cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, kudus, crocodiles, sable antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons, wild dogs and many other interesting animals. Outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed, with over 500 different bird species including eagles, kingfishers, vultures and storks.
After a beautiful African sunset, enjoy the balmy evening and pristine stars of the Milky Way as you have never seen them before – as well as the spectacular Southern Cross.
Note: You will need some upper-body strength for this safari, as it will take place in a game-viewing vehicle with no seatbelt (although the driver can drive slowly). Children under 6 are not allowed on open-top game drives. Other safari alternatives are available, using an accessible vehicle, if you do not have upper-body strength or if you are travelling with young children.
Day 8
Enjoy some final early-morning game viewing, before your five-hour transfer to Johannesburg Airport for your flight home.
