Disabled Holidays in Nice

Sunny beach in Nice, France

The capital of the Côte d’Azur – or French Riviera – Nice has been a tourist hotspot ever since the English aristocracy started wintering here way back in the 18th century. Today it’s more popular than ever, welcoming visitors with its warm weather, splendid old town, vibrant nightlife and famous, five-mile arcing beach.

Much of the action can be found along Promenade des Anglais, a wide, palm tree-lined boulevard that hugs the shore alongside the Bay of Angels and looks out onto the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean. The boulevard is flat and perfectly suited for wheelchairs.

Elsewhere you’ll find bustling local flower and food markets in the Old Town, a host of great museums, and numerous parks and gardens. If you’re in the mood for a bit of extra excitement, come in February, when the whole city erupts in a riot of colour during the Nice Carnival. The festivities last two weeks and include extravagant flower parades and musical performances.

Accessible attractions

Nice has a range of accessible attractions to suit all tastes. There are numerous museums with wheelchair access, such as the MAMAC modern art museum and the Chagall Museum, as well as some great parks and gardens like Phoenix Park, which has one of the largest conservatories in Europe and houses an array of exotic birdlife.

To see all the best sights in one go, you can take a Nice Grand Tour from a wheelchair-accessible open-deck bus, which stops at 13 locations around the city. Nice also benefits from several disabled-friendly public transport options, including accessible bus, tram, train and taxi services.
