Disabled Holidays in Tunisia

Blue sea and sandy beach in Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

A land of sun, sea, sand and culture, Tunisia is a dream destination for an unforgettable holiday on North Africa’s dazzling Mediterranean coast.

Boasting sun-drenched shores, it’s blessed by an abundance of glorious sweeping beaches, from the bustling sands of seafront resorts to remote stretches lapped by crystal-clear waters.

Tunisia’s ideal location means it enjoys long dry summers and mild winters, ensuring you’ll experience warm weather to complement the even warmer welcome whenever you go. It’s also affordably priced and just a three-hour direct flight from the UK.

Tunisia boasts a range of accessible hotels, many with beach access and their own thalassotherapy centres – unique spas which employ clean local seawater and marine minerals for soothing treatments that revitalise the body. Thalassotherapy is also said to treat conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, back and muscular pain, arthritis and stress.

Beyond the beaches and spas you’ll find much more to explore. City streets and medinas burst with exotic souks selling all manner of locally produced clothes, ceramics, jewellery, incense and perfumes – the perfect chance for a bargain, as long as you’re prepared to haggle!

There’s a wealth of historic sites to visit too. The Phoenicians, Romans and Byzantines have all called Tunisia home, and many impressive structures from these times still stand. Of particular note are the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage, now scattered among the modern capital Tunis; the magnificent El Jem Amphitheatre, the largest outside Italy; and the extensive Roman remains at Dougga.

For the more adventurous, safaris to the Sahara Desert, which occupies much of southern Tunisia, are also a possibility. These tours take travellers on a remarkable journey through endless rolling sand dunes, secluded oases and the stark beauty of the Atlas Mountains. The region was a frequent location for several Star Wars films, and fans can visit a number of famous movie sets that still stand in the desert.
