Description
Surrounded by beautiful unspoilt countryside and just ¼ mile from a stunning beach, this lovely detached property is the perfect base to relax and unwind.
An original stone croft cottage that has been extended over the years. This much loved cottage has been in the same family for generations, and the current family members have completely refurbished and updated it throughout to provide a good standard of accommodation in a lovely countryside setting. It is situated in the pretty hamlet of Strathy, on a quiet lane that leads down to one of the most stunning sandy beaches to be found anywhere in the British Isles. It is surrounded by open fields just a few yards from the renowned North Coast 500 route, which passes through incredible unspoilt and dramatic scenery for hundreds of miles.
The kitchen/dining room is bright and spacious, with built in units and a large dining table for up to six guests. The pretty living room has a feature multi-fuel burner and superb views across the hills and farmland beyond. There is a twin bedroom on the ground floor and a shower room. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with a double bed. All are beautifully presented with colour coordinated soft furnishings and wonderful views.
There are lovely walks direct from the cottage. The small lane winds down to Strathy beach. Here the wide sweeping sandy bay is bounded by small cliffs and rocky outcrops. Colourful wild flowers grow on the hinterland and the River Strathy flows into the sea. This unbelievably spectacular beach is usually almost deserted; an ideal place for secluded sunbathing, picnics and a host of water sports. The local area is renowned for its fishing, with sea, loch and river fishing all enjoyed locally.
The immediate area is a wildlife watcher’s paradise. Whales, basking sharks, porpoises, seals and otters are all seen in the region. There is also a colony of puffins at nearby Melvich, 3 miles away, which can be seen in the spring and early summer, and at Forsinard there is an RSPB nature reserve, where local rangers will take visitors to explore the birdlife, flora and fauna close to hand. The pretty villages along this stretch of coastline also have good local facilities including pubs and restaurants. Golf, canoeing, cycling, hill-walking, climbing and horse riding are all local pastimes. Beach ¼ mile. Shop and restaurant 3 miles, pub 1 mile.
