Description
This Bed & Breakfast is tucked away in the heart of the glorious Devon countryside, set on the banks of the River Taw amongst the scenic landscape of the Tarka Trail. Retreat to nature where you can enjoy the outdoor life with a walk in the surrounding forest or join in with some of the best country sports in the UK right on our doorstep, with shooting and fishing breaks for you to enjoy.
Let the sound of the owls lull you into a deep sleep in our comfortable bedrooms under a sky where you can actually see the stars! The hotel is furnished with some beautiful antiques and has undergone a gradual refurbishment over the last 6 years. There are 6 acres of gardens stretching down to the banks of the beautiful River Taw. There is wildlife all around including pheasants, owls and woodpeckers.
Dining
The Sunday carvery is excellent quality with a choice of 3 roasts every week, using only the finest Exmoor matured meat, plus a great choice of starters and delicious desserts.
From traditional home made classics like 'Proper' Beer Battered Fish and Chips to our specialty sharing platters with Devon's finest meat and game, your meal will be bursting with the freshest Devon ingredients. The childrens menu offers the same excellent quality dishes we know they will love.
The Restaurant Lounge offers a relaxed dining area to enjoy our splendid food, or when the sun shines the Garden Terrace is perfect for a drink as the sun sets over our lovely garden.
Bar
The bar offers a choice of 3 local ciders and real ale drawn straight from the barrel. The wine list features a fabulous Devon white wine and a sparkling white from Cornwall.
Activities
There is an amazing array of activities on offer at the hotel or in the nearby countryside. The hotel is famous for its fishing with a rich history associated with trout and salmon fishing. The hotel currently has over five miles of fishing available on the River Taw with concessions at a number of other local rivers.
Rooms
All bedrooms are uniquely designed, each with its own special character and featuring lovely Antique French furniture. The rear facing rooms overlook our lovely gardens with views over the river to Heywood Forest and up to Eggesford Church. All rooms have free WI-FI, hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel also provides dog bowls, towels and dog beds upon request. In addition the hotel also has cots and highchairs available.
