Disabled Holidays in Camelford

Sunset over Bodmin Moor

The quiet market town of Camelford is a charming getaway that’s in a great location for exploring the best of northern Cornwall. Situated just north of Bodmin Moor and six miles from the coast, it’s set among idyllic scenery and ideally placed to provide the best the region has to offer.

Camelford is famous for its links to King Arthur, having reportedly been the site of the Court of Camelot. According to legend, Arthur was slain by his nephew Mordred in the nearby hamlet of Slaughterbridge, which is now the location of the Arthurian Centre. The centre is home to Arthur’s Tomb, which is designated by a large inscribed stone that dates back 1,500 years. It also contains an exhibition centre, gift shop and tea room.

The main site of interest in Camelford itself is the North Cornwall Museum and Gallery. The museum has a wealth of artefacts relating to many aspects of rural life in the region over the last century, including agriculture, cider-making and dairy production. The gallery offers differing exhibitions throughout the year, featuring a range of crafts and paintings.

More local history can be experienced at the site of Rough Tor, a rocky outcrop that stands on the edge of Bodmin Moor and looks over Camelford from the south-east. The site contains a glut of ancient ruins, including some striking natural and man-made rock formations.

Camelford also boasts several excellent pubs and cafes, all offering delicious local produce.
