Disabled Beach Holidays in Fuerteventura

Sotavento beach on Fuerteventura

With its sky-blue waters and abundance of long, pristine beaches, it’s no surprise that Fuerteventura is one of Europe’s most desired holiday destinations.

The second largest of the Canary Islands (after Tenerife), Fuerteventura boasts nearly a hundred miles of excellent beaches – from the golden dunes of Corralejo in the north, to the miles of flat white sands on the Jandia peninsula in the south – with 3,000 hours of sunshine a year in which to enjoy them.

Fuerteventura’s inland scenery is just as spectacular as its coastline, with a range of impressive volcanic peaks that are almost otherworldly in their beauty. The island’s valuable ecosystems and its unspoilt cleanliness earned it UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve status in 2009 – and today much of its surface area is covered by designated natural parkland.

Things to do

Beaches

No matter where you choose to stay on Fuerteventura, you’re never far from a great beach. Some of the best include the immense Sotavento, near Jandia; the isolated Cofete; and the six-mile Corralejo, with its rolling dunes and adjacent nature reserve.

Many beaches are practically deserted due to their sheer number and size, meaning you’re always able to find space to yourself.

Museums

Fuerteventura is home to a large number of museums for its size. You can learn about the island’s unique goat cheese industry at Museo del Queso Majorero; explore the open-air village of Poblado de la Atalayita, home to stone dwellings of Fuerteventura’s original inhabitants; and see fascinating archaeological artefacts at the Museo Arqueologico de Betancuria.

Oasis Park

Situated on Fuerteventura’s southern coast, the Oasis Park and botanical garden is home to over 3,000 animals, including camels, giraffes, elephants, sea lions, parrots and many more. The park has good wheelchair access to all spaces and enclosures, and there are reserved spaces for wheelchair users during its exciting live shows.
