The Dominican Republic lies in the Caribbean, south of the Bahamas. It shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. It is known for its golfing, for its pristine beaches and for its all inclusive resorts. It also has a varied terrain comprising savannah, rainforests, highlands and has the tallest mountain in the Caribbean. Santo Domingo is the capital, Santiago, the second city is slightly more laid back, while Punta Cana is home to many beautiful resorts.
How to Get There - The Dominican Republic is served by a number of international airports including Punta Cana in the west, or Puerto Plata in the north. Flight times from the UK are approximately ten hours. Due to its location, the Dominican Republic makes for an ideal base for exploring other islands in the Caribbean, as part of a cruise or just as a holiday destination in itself.
