Disabled Holidays in South Pacific

The South Pacific region consists of thousands of islands, coral reefs and atolls off the eastern coast of Australia and New Zealand stretching to the western coast of the South American continent. Remote, exotic, surrounded by deep turquoise waters and subject to nature’s forces, their beauty makes them more than worthy of the journey. The islands are divided into three regions: Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. French Polynesia, the Pitcairns, Easter Island, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Tahiti are just some of the islands that make up Polynesia. Micronesia lies between Hawaii and the Philippines and is made up of the Marshall, Caroline, Gilbert and Mariana groups of islands. Melanesia curves down from New Guinea and is made up of coral islands, soaring volcanoes and larger islands such as the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji.

How to Get There - The larger islands such as Fiji and French Polynesia are served by at least one domestic airline. It’s possible to buy a ticket to Australia or New Zealand that allows stopovers to some of the South Pacific Islands. Flight times to Australia or New Zealand from the UK are approximately 21 hours. Seaplanes and inter island shipping services also enable travel between the islands.

Best Time to Go - The hot, wet season, when there may be cyclones, runs from November to April, but even during this time you can experience wonderful weather with winds that blow away mosquitoes and sandflies. July and August, the southern winter, is a busy time, but even in this hot season there may be rain - it’s all a bit unpredictable.
