There are many great beaches in Portugal, such as Sintra, just outside Lisbon and Europe’s most westerly sands or Miramar in Porto complete with a little, white chapel, Capeal do Senhor da Pedra. There's also some lovely beaches to be found in the Algarve: the beach in Altura, a few miles away from the Spanish border is wonderful and perfect for families. Praia da Rocha in Portimão, eastern Lagos is a stunning stretch of sand with some amazing caves. There's also an interesting museum in the town too.
Elsewhere, you will find the Baroque city of Braga, one of Portugal’s oldest and with nearly fifty places of worship dotted throughout. Lisbon, the capital, lies on the River Tagus and is the oldest city in western Europe.
