Holidays for People with Cerebral Palsy

Child with cerebral palsy in a wheelchair

DisabledHolidays.com can provide help and advice when booking a holiday if you have cerebral palsy.

If you have a destination in mind, we’ll be able to advise on its suitability for you. Alternatively if you don’t have anywhere in mind, we will use our knowledge and expertise to find your perfect holiday.

Our job is to ensure that your holiday is stress free, from the time of booking to arriving home. As everyone’s requirements are different, we recommend calling one of our friendly advisors on 0161 260 2218 to discuss how we can arrange the ideal tailor-made holiday for you.

FAQs

Can you book suitable accommodation for us?

Yes. We will arrange suitable accommodation to ensure you have a stress-free holiday. These are some of the adaptations we can organise:

  • Accessible lift to all floors
  • Step-free access to all public areas, including the pool
  • Pool hoist
  • Specific bed on request; e.g., electric bed
  • Interconnected room for carer
  • Accessible wet room
  • Grab rails, shower stools, hoist
  • Raised toilet seat
  • Ground floor facilities
  • Adapted kitchens, bathrooms and wide hallways
  • Any other mobility equipment you might require. Please request any further specific adaptations; e.g., lever taps, lowered baths, bath boards, shower trolleys

Can you arrange assistance at the airport?

Yes. Airport assistance can be pre-booked and arranged free of charge through us. We can arrange for someone to help you from your taxi at the airport, assist you at the check-in desk, escort you to the aircraft and help you board. If needed, we can also arrange lifts on and off the plane.

Can you help me plan accessible days out?

Yes. We can plan the accessibility of your chosen holiday destination before you book with us. If there is something in particular you would like to do on holiday, such as a day trip or a visit to the nearest accessible beach, we can arrange this for you prior to travel.

Can I hire mobility equipment?

Yes. We have partnered with a wide range of mobility suppliers, including companies offering a large selection of all-terrain wheelchairs, which we can arrange for you before you travel. We will make sure you will not feel limited because of tricky terrain!

What should I consider when packing?

  • Any medication you might need
  • Your disabled parking badge for any rental car you may use
  • Travel sickness items (check with your doctor for any prescription concerns)
  • Blankets or comfort objects

Is cruising a suitable holiday?

Yes. You can choose from a range of wheelchair-adapted cabins, including an ocean view cabin, balcony cabin or a suite. Most of the cruises we offer have wide-access doors, handrails and lowered sinks and units (please ask upon enquiry). If you require any further equipment, such as a hoist or electric bed, we can arrange this for you.

The cruise ships we book have plenty of exciting accessible leisure facilities and a huge choice of restaurants, so you don’t need to worry about getting bored on days spent at sea! We can also arrange exciting wheelchair-accessible excursions at your ports of call. Some cruises occasionally access ports via tender. If you are unable to transfer to a tender and don’t want to miss out on any excursions, we can find you a cruise on which all ports are fully accessible.

Can a wheelchair user go on a cruise alone?

Although wheelchair and scooter users can travel alone on a cruise, please be aware that the crew are unable to assist you in moving around the vessel or in any personal day-to-day tasks. For this reason, we would suggest you be accompanied by a personal assistant or travelling companion to provide these services.

I need help delivering my luggage and mobility aids to my accommodation. Can you help me with this?

Yes. We highly recommend Bagsahead, who pick up your luggage and/or equipment from your home and deliver it straight to your accommodation. This means you can avoid the stress of queuing and can have extra space if you’re travelling by car. When you arrive at your accommodation, your luggage will be waiting for you.

What about travel insurance?

To help ensure peace of mind while on holiday, we advise getting travel insurance. We recommend our partner Fish Insurance, one of the UK’s biggest disability insurance providers, who provide cover for people with cerebral palsy.
