FAQs

I have a pacemaker – will I be able to get through airport security?

Yes - you will be given a pacemaker ID card when you have your operation, this can be shown to the airport security on arrival at the airport. They should then use a hand held sweeper instead of the large metal detector. We have however been assured by airport security that any of the security appliances in all airports should not affect your pacemaker.

What do I do with my medication?

You should have your medication with you at all times. We recommend taking your medication onto the aircraft with you, so if your suitcase does go missing you have all your medication to hand. If you are taking a liquid medication you must take a copy of the prescription and preferably a doctors note with you. As there are currently restrictions on taking liquids through security, they may test any liquid medication you are taking onto the aircraft so remember to check in early.

What happens if I am running out of my medication while overseas?

Always take too much medication with you this way it ensures you will have no problems while overseas. We do suggest taking a current prescription for your medication.

I need oxygen on the aircraft and in the accommodation - is this available?

We can arrange for there to be oxygen both on the aircraft and in your accommodation. If you need oxygen as soon as you disembark the aircraft we can sort this for you, or we can arrange delivery to your accommodation. Everybody's needs are different so we would recommend that you call us and we can arrange an oxygen quotation for you.

I need airport assistance - can you help me with this?

Airport assistance can be pre booked and arranged free of charge through ourselves. We can arrange for someone to help you from your taxi at the airport, at the check in desk to assist you with checking in your bags, escorting you to the aircraft and helping you to board. We can arrange hoists and lifts on and off the aircraft if required.

I need a room adapted for my needs - is this possible?

We can arrange adapted rooms in properties in the UK and overseas. We would suggest calling us to discuss your requirements and we will be happy to recommend the perfect accommodation for you. Here are some adaptations we can organise:

  • Wheelchair accessible lift to all floors
  • Ground floor facilities
  • Step-free access to all public areas, including hoists to access the pool
  • Specific bed on request e.g. electric bed
  • Accessible wet room
  • Grab rails, shower stools, hoist
  • Raised toilet seat
  • Adapted kitchens, bathrooms and wide hallways
  • Any other mobility equipment you might require - please request any further specific adaptations e.g. lowered baths, bath boards, shower trolley

I need help delivering my luggage and mobility aids to my accommodation - can you help me with this?

Yes, we highly recommend Bagsahead, who pick up your luggage/equipment from your home and deliver it straight to your accommodation. This will mean you don't need to have any stress of queuing and can have extra space in your car if you're travelling by car. When you arrive at your accommodation your luggage will be waiting for you.

What about travel insurance?

We advise that you get travel insurance. We suggest Fish insurance, who cover Congenital Heart Disease.
