On Site Information
The Estate is set within 73 acres and all of which guests are welcome to explore. Its known history dates back to 1647. It has a 12 acre wood known as Jock’s Wood where you are welcome to let dogs off the lead. There is a Victorian walled garden split into flower, vegetable and fruit sections and the Estate is bounded on the East by the Urr water, a tidal river. There is a small arboretum of specimen trees and the rest of the landscaped gardens are known as the policies. A range of wildlife can be seen in and around the Estate. A mobility scooter is available free of charge (manual scooters can also be hired from the local day centre for a small donation) and the flat level pathways around the Estate make it easy to get around. Further non-accessible accommodation is available on site for larger parties (please call for further information).
Please Note: This property has been visited and has achieved a Bronze mobility accessibility rating by DisabledHolidays.com. A full audit is available on request.
Things to Do

Area information
The village of Palnackie has one public house and a Post Office-cum-shop, but it is much more than these. Down one lane from its crossroads is the Port Basin, along another, the extensive business of Niven's, hauliers. Up to 1965 it was the fairly successful outport of Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas, with now the prospect of more landings from the Solway cockling trade. The village has a popular annual event that must be the muddiest in the area - visitors try and catch local flatfish by 'trampling' in the mud and catching the fish with their toes! The area around Palnackie is possibly the most attractive landscape (as against seascape) in the lower Urr Valley. Screel, Doach Wood and Orchardton, are well-wooded with flat land, hills and small streams. Farming and forestry are both important, but there is a developing tourist industry.Information last updated: 08/12/2023 10:27:04
