Majesty of the Fjords
DisabledHolidays.com customer Dawn Wiley shares her experience of a recent holiday – and we are thrilled to see how much of an amazing time she had!
Back in June I had my first holiday in 22 years. Mark from DisabledHolidays.com found me the perfect holiday. I’m bedridden 90% of each day and I am unable to sit upright for long, so Mark suggested a cruise. I eventually chose the Norwegian Fjords.
I went with my support worker Sarah and St John’s Ambulance brought me to the port. I spent the majority of the holiday lying in my tilt-and-recline wheelchair on a balcony watching the Fjords slip by.
I basically exchanged my bed and four walls at home for a wheelchair bed and the majesty of the Fjords! Can you imagine anything more incredible?! It was utterly awe-inspiring and totally captivated me every step of the way.
There was even one day I managed to get off the ship for half an hour in Eidfjord, Norway, and go for a latte. I was determined I would set foot (or wheels!) abroad.
I still have difficulty believing that I actually went on holiday and it was only a month ago. Thankfully I have photos that prove it! I never dreamt I’d manage to go holiday again. With thanks to Mark, Sarah and the crew of St John’s Ambulance for making it possible.
